UPI Lite in Google Pay: Make UPI Payments without PIN in Google Pay

UPI Lite is the new feature in UPI (Unified Payments Interface) which is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and launched by the Reserve Bank of India in September 2022.

Now Google Pay has introduced the UPI Lite feature for its users in India.

By enabling the UPI Lite feature, Google Pay users can make payments without entering their UPI PIN.

But user will have to enter the passcode of the Google Pay app to access this feature. 

 UPI Lite is on device wallet, User has to load money in this wallet.

Once this wallet loaded with the money then user can make the transaction from it.

User don’t need to enter UPI PIN while doing payment.

Basically, this feature is launched for low value transactions.

Means user can make the transaction with minimum amount 1 rupee to max 200 Through UPI Lite.

In this way user can make cumulative transactions up to 4000 Rupees in day.

User can Load money in UPI Lite wallet from bank account which is already linked in google pay.

If bank account is not linked in google pay, then please link it before activating UPI Lite.

User can load maximum 2000 rupee in UPI Lite Wallet twice in day, it means 4000 rupees in a day.

How to Activate UPI Lite feature in Google Pay

  1. Open google Pay App in your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the mobile screen.
  3. Once tap on profile icon, find the ‘UPI Lite’ feature
  4. Tap on ‘UPI Lite’ to proceed further. 
  5. Tap on ‘Add Money’.
  6. Choose Account to add money and continue.
  7. Enter Amount to add money to the UPI Lite wallet.
  8. Click on Add and enter UPI PIN
  9. Money will get added to the UPI Lite Wallet, and UPI Lite will get activated.
  10. Whenever you tap on Profile, you find UPI Lite Active Status.

Now Your UPI Lite Wallet is ready to transact.

How to Disable UPI Lite feature in Google Pay

  1. Open google Pay App in your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on the profile icon at the top-right corner of the mobile screen.
  3. Once you tap on profile icon, find the ‘UPI Lite’ feature.
  4. Tap on UPI Lite, you will be redirected to Payment method page.
  5. Under Payment methods Tap on UPI Lite.
  6. Now you will see UPI Lite Balance, here, go to three vertical dots.
  7. Three dots situated at the right-side top corner.
  8. Tap on three dots, and you will see Delete UPI Lite.
  9. Tap on Delete UPI Lite. Your UPI lite Account will be deleted.
  10. Your Lite Wallet balance will be credited to your bank account.

How to do payments through UPI Lite in Google Pay

Pay by Phone Number in Google Pay

  1. Open google Pay App in your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on Pay contacts.
  3. Enter phone number, or you can select it from the list “All People On UPI”.
  4. Tap on the “Pay” and enter amount.
  5. Now choose account “UPI Lite” to pay and Tap on Pay PIN Free.
  6. Your money will be transferred securely without entering PIN.

Pay by scanning a QR in Google Pay

  1. Open google Pay App in your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on Scan any QR code.
  3. Scan QR, or you can choose QR from the gallery.
  4. Once you scan QR, you will see the payee’s details.
  5. Enter amount that you want to pay.
  6. Now choose account “UPI Lite” to pay and Tap on Pay PIN Free.
  7. Your money will be transferred securely without entering PIN.

Pay by UPI ID in Google Pay

  1. Open google Pay App in your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on Pay UPI ID.
  3. Enter payee’s UPI ID and tap on the Continue.
  4. You will see the payee’s details, Now tap on Pay.
  5. Enter amount that you want to pay.
  6. Now choose account “UPI Lite” to pay and Tap on Pay PIN Free.
  7. Your money will be transferred securely without entering PIN.

Mobile recharge through UPI Lite in Google Pay

  1. Open google Pay App in your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on Mobile Recharge.
  3. Enter a mobile number or select a mobile number from the list.
  4. Search for a recharge plan, enter recharge amount, or select recharge plan from the list.
  5. Now choose account “UPI Lite” to pay and Tap on Pay PIN Free.
  6. Your recharge will be successful without entering a PIN.

What if you want to change your mobile device?

  1. As i said before, UPI Lite is on device wallet.
  2. So same wallet cannot be accessed in different devices.
  3. If you are thinking to change your mobile device, then disable your UPI lite wallet.
  4. By disabling UPI lite wallet, Lite balance will be credited to your bank account.
  5. In case you change your device then you can activate UPI Lite on that device also. 

Note : UPI Lite 

  • UPI Lite transactions will not appear on the bank statement.
  • Only the transaction done to top up to the UPI Lite wallet would be reflected in the statements.
  • You will receive SMS on your registered mobile number for every transaction done by you through UPI Lite Wallet.
  • You can check All UPI Lite transaction History in APP.
